Comfort Aire Dehumidifiers are less well known and less widely available than some of the more easily recognized brands such as Frigidaire, Danby and GE. This may be because these dehumidifiers are rather more expensive than the more popular models. This is unfortunate since the three models in the Comfort Aire Dehumidifier range probably come as close to meeting the needs of dehumidifier users as any. In dehumidifier reviews written by consumers Comfort Aire units have consistently high ratings. Many of the complaints made about other brands simply do not appear and these appliances are praised for their excellent build quality, ease of installation and use, effectiveness and reliability.
Even the familiar complaints about buckets being hard to remove and replace are missing. Indeed users are full of admiration for the careful design which makes emptying the bucket a breeze. All dehumidifiers make noise but Comfort Aire Dehumidifiers are widely appreciated for being quieter than other models. A point to note here is that the fan does not run continuously, as with most dehumidifiers, but only comes on when the compressor is in use.
The Comfort Aire dehumidifier is manufactured by Heat Controller Inc. located in Jackson, Michigan. Founded in 1933 the company can trace its origins back to the Winger Furnace Company which began manufacturing coal, gas and oil furnaces in 1907. The Comfort Aire BHD651G is a high capacity dehumidifier with a maximum water extraction rate of 65 pints per day. It is fully equipped with all the features for use in the home, including a capability to operate safely at low temperatures. This dehumidifier will be very effective in a basement provided that it is not too large for the capacity of the unit. The manufacturer recommends an area of up to 1200 square feet. The anti-frost protection, in common with most portable dehumidifiers sold in the USA, is designed to protect the dehumidifier from damage and it will operate safely at temperatures as low as 41°F (5°C). At such low temperatures, however, portable dehumidifiers are not very effective and if your basement is consistently cold for long periods of the year a unit.
