Gun safe dehumidifier
Gun safe doesn’t mean safe from gun; it is a place where the guns are kept safe. Usually it is a closed area where all the guns are placed after they are used. Those guns will be left there until the next use.
Have you thought of something which is very critical? Yes, the water vapor from the guns that condense in the safe; those water vapor come from the sweat of the gun users, which contains high saturation of water. Condensation is the guns’ main enemy; it causes the gun component part to become rusty and lead to unusable condition.
Besides that, condensation that builds up in the gun safe would also increase the chance of mould growing on every edge of the area. Depending on the location of the safe, as well as the local climate, humidity could also build up very fast due to huge climate changes. Sudden change in temperature is one of the examples of huge climate changes.
There are generally two types of gun safe dehumidifiers available in the market nowadays. One of those is electric powered, while another is desiccant.
An electric dehumidifier is a very popular dehumidifier, even to be used as gun safe dehumidifier. Also known as “Golden Rod”, it heats up to around 140oC, with the aim to keep the ambient temperature high enough to let water vapor in the safe evaporates, hen preventing condensation. Most of electric dehumidifiers consist of an 18” rod which can be easily mounted to the wall of the safe.
Contrary, if there is no electric power point near the safe, a desiccant is really your only choice. Basically, a desiccant is a kind of sponge which acts like a magnet, soaking water around it. Exactly like a sponge, a desiccant also need to be wrung or dried out after it is full.
A gun safe dehumidifier is very important to help keep the valuable weapon dry from condensation, so that it won’t suffer from any damage caused by the water vapor.
